Jamie Dornan has said Sir Kenneth Branagh’s “unbelievable” Hercule Poirot moustache made him feel “insecure and inferior” as they starred opposite each other in an upcoming film.
The 40-year-old actor, best known for his role as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades film series, stars in A Haunting In Venice, which sees Agatha Christie’s famous Belgian detective return for another mystery.
Sir Kenneth also played Poirot in the previous films Murder On The Orient Express in 2017 and Death On The Nile in 2022, based on Christie’s novels.
Dornan told The Graham Norton Show: “It was very different doing scenes with (Sir Kenneth).
“I felt very insecure and inferior the whole time because his moustache was unbelievable, the best in film history as Poirot, while mine was a wee attempt at one.”
Dornan, from Northern Ireland, also starred in Belfast, Sir Kenneth’s autobiographical drama written and directed by the veteran actor.
Set during the Troubles, it is partly based on the 62-year-old actor, writer and director’s own experiences as a boy and earned him a best original screenplay Oscar last year.
Dornan was asked about being reunited with Belfast co-star Jude Hill in the Poirot film and said: “I love that boy so much. Even though he is now a star he is still the sweetest kid.”
The Tourist star was also joined on the BBC chat show by actor James Norton, Oscar-nominated Hotel Rwanda actress Sophie Okonedo, Derry Girls actress Siobhan McSweeney, and singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi.
Norton said it was a “huge relief” that people are enjoying the third and final series of Happy Valley.
When the six-episode BBC One drama, created and written by Sally Wainwright, returned on New Year’s Day it garnered five-star reviews from newspaper critics across the board.
The series follows Sarah Lancashire’s character Sergeant Catherine Cawood on the trail of murderer and sex offender Tommy Lee Royce, played by Norton.
Norton said: “(Tommy) is a despicable monster, but he became really enticing, a sort of weird distant friend that you love seeing.
“I loved playing him and I miss him and the show.”

Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan has been teasing fans with a photo of him in a retro hipster “tache”. The actor doesn’t say why he has grown the unusual handlebar moustache so fans have been left guessing.
His latest post shows he has shaved off the trademark close cut beard that he has been sporting all summer. Sitting with the family’s black dog Lenny he also has an uncharacteristic curly hairstyle and retro sunglasses.
Although known for looking a dish on the red carpet, 33-year-old, Cotswolds based actor has never been afraid to sport a new look on social media. He has even posted pictures of himself looking ridiculous while dressing up with his three young daughters in the past.
Weeks ago he was pictured clean faced in the trailer for the Netflix drama Heart of Stone which will be out next year.
But had clearly grown back the facial hair by the time he holidayed in Switzerland with wife, the film composer Amelia Warner. He was pictured on a mountain with a definite fuzz.
But even though off duty he clearly prefers the unshaven look, the new handlebar moustache took Fifty Shades fans by surprise. Die hard fans of smoothie Mr Grey were shocked by the latest change of image but 256,000 fans liked the new look so most seem to approve.
The only caption is Boys which seems to refer to him and the family dog, known as Lenny, and his casual outfit gives no clues to the reason either.
The 33-year-old Irish actor comes from a family of medics so he could have grown it to join the annual Movember event which raises awareness of male health issues by persuading men to grow a moustache every November.
But it could be a film role as well. Jamie is due to star in the Hercule Poirot film A Haunting in Venice, which was inspired by Christie’s 1969 novel, Hallowe’en Party. Early reports say director Sir Kenneth Branagh will reprise his role as the Belgian detective, created by Agatha Christie, after previously playing Poirot in 2017’s Murder On The Orient Express and 2022’s Death On The Nile.
Jamie’s role hasn’t been announced but it seems Poirot might have some competition in the famous moustache department when filming starts..
One fan had another theory. “The Jadotville stache is back, and we’re here for it” , they wrote referencing the 2016 film The Siege of Jadotville that he appeared in.
Jamie once revealed that he hates shaving. “I hate my face without a beard,” he told The Jonathan Ross Show in 2016 . “I swear to God I really hate it. I always think I look really young. I think when I’m clean shaven, I look like a thumb. My own ‘Jamie resting face’ is what I have an issue with.”

Dakota Johnson is suiting up for the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters.
The actor has been cast as Madame Web in the studio’s next standalone superhero movie. It would mark Sony’s first modern comic book adaptation to feature a female in the title role. Insiders close to the project stress that Johnson’s deal is not closed but confirm she is in talks to secure the role.
S.J. Clarkson, known for her work on Netflix’s darker Marvel series “Jessica Jones” and the MCU-set spinoff “The Defenders,” has been hired to direct the “Madame Web” film. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the duo behind Jared Leto’s upcoming vampire chiller “Morbius,” will write the screenplay.
In the comics, Madame Web is key in the interconnected multiverse, a somewhat confusing concept that Sony, Disney and Warner Bros. have each separately started to tease in on-screen adventures. In effect, the mind-bending theory involves multiple versions of characters from different timelines that, in the case of Sony’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” can intersect to varying degrees of chaos.
Web often appears as a side character in “Spider-Man” comics, where she is depicted as a blind, paralyzed elderly woman who has myasthenia gravis, a chronic autoimmune disorder requiring her to connect to a life support system resembling a spiderweb. The character was introduced in issue 210 of “The Amazing Spider-Man” comic series in 1980, where she’s a clairvoyant mutant whose abilities prove to be greatly beneficial to Spider-Man and his fellow arachnid allies, like Spider-Woman.
Since Johnson’s breakout role in “Fifty Shades of Grey,” she has cultivated an eclectic resume with roles in Luca Guadagnino’s supernatural horror remake “Suspiria,” the romantic comedy “How to Be Single,” the feel-good film “Peanut Butter Falcon” and director Maggie Gyllenhaal’s psychological drama “The Lost Daughter.” Johnson recently received acclaim for two Sundance films, director Cooper Raiff’s sweet coming-of-age story “Cha Cha Real Smooth” and the romantic comedy “Am I OK?”
“Madame Web” is one of several Spider-Man related spinoffs in development as Sony spawns its own separate and expanding film franchise, one that is anchored by baddies like Venom, Morbius and Kraven. It’s not (at least, at this point) related to Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which Tom Holland plays the popular web-slinger. He last appeared in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” a box-office behemoth that has grossed $1.74 billion globally.

Fresh off his Oscar-buzzed turn in Belfast , Jamie Dornan looks to have found his next big role, as sources tell Deadline he is set to join Gal Gadot in the international spy thriller Heart of Stone from Netflix and Skydance.
Tom Harper is directing the pic from a script by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are producing, along with Mockingbird’s Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn and Pilot Wave’s Gadot and Jaron Varsano. Harper, Rucka and Patty Whitcher are exec producing.
Plot details are being kept under wraps.
As for Dornan, the A-lister has had quite the fall as Belfast has become an award-season front-runner after its festival tour. His performance in the pic directed by Kenneth Branagh and also starring Caitriona Balfe and Jude Hill has delivered Dornan some of the best reviews of his career and, with Oscar voting coming to an end today, a possible first-time nomination as well. – SOURCE
